Messi sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud

A court in Spain has sentenced Barcelona midfielder Lionel Messi to 21 months in prison after he was found guilty of tax fraud.

The midfielder and his father Jorge were found to have  used tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings from image rights.

However it is expected that that the pair will not spent any time behind bars as Spanish law dictates that prison terms under two years can be served under probation.

The Argentine has also been ordered to pay a fine of  two million Euros, whilst Jorge Messi is expected to have to pay 1.5 million Euros,

During the trial Messi had claimed that he “knew nothing” about his crimes as he was busy “playing football!.
