Put Your Money Away, China

Clubs in the Chinese Super League have been splashing the cash lately with all the bravado and brashness of your run-of-the-mill City boy in All Bar One, or a seven-year-old who’s received £20 off his nan at Christmas and gone mental in Toys ‘R’ Us. THREE LIGHTSABERS IS ENOUGH, TIMMY, YOU DON’T NEED ANY MORE.

The league’s current transfer window is set to break records thanks to deals of £60m for Oscar to Shanghai SIPG and £40m for Carlos Tevez, plus a rumoured £310,000 per week salary, to Shanghai Shenhua.

Even Nikola Kalinic – the extremely mediocre Fiorentina striker Nikola Kalinic – could be off to China for a rumoured €45m, which is frankly disgusting and everyone involved should be very ashamed.

Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte have expressed concern at the amount of money being thrown around – because European clubs have the monopoly on big spending, apparently – but now China’s chief governing body, the General Administration of Sport, has weighed in with plans to announce a cap on spending.

A spokesperson for the GAS described the CSL clubs’ spending as “burning money” and a “grave phenomenon” on the organisation’s official website.

The spokesperson also said the organisation would “strengthen examination and supervision of clubs’ financial affairs, progressively control clubs’ expenditures on first-team players and ensure favourable financial conditions”

You’ve had your fun, China, now pack it in and leave the extravagant and unnecessary big-spending to Europe, okay?

If you have some extra cash burning a hole in your pocket, why not have a bet? The upcoming Cheltenham Festival 2017 is one of the sporting weeks of the year and brings plenty of excitement to punters and racers alike!
