The Greatest Players In England’s National Team History

There’s little doubt that the England football team has had some talented players on its side over the years. Of course, some have stood out far more than others, which is why it’s fairly easy to create a collection of the greatest England players. These men have performed above and beyond expectations for the team throughout history, so, let’s take a look at the best that England has had to offer.

Paul Scholes

Perhaps one of the lesser appreciated England players in
history, Paul Scholes spent the entirety of his playing career with Manchester
United. During that time, he scored more than 150 goals in over 700
appearances. However, it was his appearances for England between 1997 and 2004
that gained him some additional popularity, where he gained 66 caps. However,
he could have been utilised much more, being fairly wasted as a left-wing when
on the England side.

Michael Owen

Even though injuries plagued Owen later on in his career, he
showed out time and time again for both the England team and Liverpool. The
former striker suffered through various hamstring injuries, but that didn’t
stop him joining the England team in 1998, becoming the youngest player and
goalscorer to ever do so. It was his
performance in that year’s FIFA World Cup
that brought him to his national
and international prominence, going on to score in the UEFA Euro 2000, the 2002
World Cup and Euro 2004.

Kevin Keegan

During the 1970s and 80s, Keegan was known as quite the superstar
in the football world. He played for several clubs, including Newcastle United,
Southampton and, of course, Liverpool, where he won three First Division titles,
two UEFA Cup’s, the FA Cup and European Cup. He made his debut for England in
1972, being a part of the 1-0 win against Wales. His first goal scored as part
of the England side came in his third appearance, which was also against Wales
in 1974. England failed to qualify for the 1974 and 1978 World Cup tournaments,
and in the team’s 1982 chances, Keegan was suffering from a chronic back injury,
deeming him unfit to play.

David Beckham

Was there really any doubt that David Beckham would be listed
here? He’s one of the most iconic footballers of all time, and he even thrived
abroad when he moved to Real Madrid later on in his career. As a player for the
England team, he made his debut on Sept. 1, 1996 at the age of 21. He was also
the captain of the team for six years, earning 58 caps during that time. He
would appear for England 115 times over, participating in three FIFA World Cups
and two EUFA European Championship competitions.

It stands to reason that he would be one of the most
wagered-on footballers, too. Many sites, such as Bet365 have experienced influxes
of bets on Beckham when he was an active player. Today, members of that sites
have the ability to participate in mobile betting as well. So, you can learn how to download
Bet365 app for iOS
before proceeding with such. When you do though, it will
open up a whole new world of sports betting for you, with the possibility of
wagering on the go.

Bobby Charlton

Former midfielder Bobby Charlton is regarded as one of the
greatest football players of all time anywhere. He was a member of the England
squad when it won the 1966 FIFA World Cup, and it was that same year that he won the Ballon d’Or,
as well. Perhaps one of Charlton’s biggest claims to fame is that he was only
cautioned twice in his entire career. Alas, that doesn’t match the fact that at
the time of his retirement from England in 1970, he was the country’s most
capped player, having turned out 106 times at the very highest level.
