A chance discovery nearly 17 years ago sparked a long-distance love affair with Leyton Orient for German football fan Tom Schmitter.

Almost 17 years ago, I was standing in London with a school group and I had a problem: I was obsessed with football.

Actually, it shouldn’t have been a problem at all. London is, after all, a kind of theme park for a German football fan.
A city where you can barely walk a mile without coming across a football club, a stadium or some great piece of football history.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, West Ham, Fulham, Queens Park Rangers – I knew all the names, of course.
