DESPITE the atrocious weather, 85,000 spectators at Wembley eagerly awaited England’s toughest game of the season - a friendly against Spain.
But this was not a friendly like we know today being used to test out players and use numerous substitutions. Friendlies in 1960 still held prestige and were highly competitive.
With their star-studded squad, Spain were the favourites. After all, they had beaten England with ease...
