No, by jove, it’s Steve Evans; and he’s back, bigger (hopefully not literally) and better than ever.

Mansfield Town have appointed football manager, part-time Maybelline ambassador and somehow-not-a-professional-darts-player Evans with hopes of resurrecting their poor League Two season after a run of one win in the last ten games.

The Scotsman will be looking to turnaround the 18th-placed Stags’ woeful form and replicate the same success he’s had in previous managerial stints in the lower leagues; Evans won promotion into the Championship with Rotherham in 2014 and took Crawley Town from the Conference to League One in consecutive seasons.

Big Steve’s last management role was at Leeds United, where he led the Yorkshire side to a 13th-placed finish during his one-year stint at the helm.

Worryingly for Mansfield fans, Evans is also quite a controversial figure: he was quite dodgy during his time managing Boston United, abuses opposition staff members and outright hates every referee ever.

Like: every referee. Every single oneHonestly. No referee is safe. Not one. Google ‘Steve Evans referee’ and find out for yourself.

But you know what? We can gloss over all those discrepancies, every one of them, because of this single, fantastic encapsulation of Steve Evans as a football manager, as a human being and as a servant of the game:

Steve Evans is back, folks: let us cherish him, now and forever more.

Remember that time the Crawley Town squad literally celebrated Steve Evans’ departure?
