Shit Ground No Fans, by Jack Bremner; published by Badger Books Ltd; price: £9.99

On the front cover of Shit Ground No Fans, it says ‘It’s the finest football chants book the world has ever seen’.

It’s a grand claim, but author Jack Bremner certainly gives it a good go in this third edition, the first in paperback form. The previous two editions were published in 2004 and 2010, so there’s been plenty of time to throw in some more terrace chants and spruce things up.

“As before, the only criteria for inclusion are that the chant is funny, irreverent or clever,” says Bremner. “I have tried my best to remain faithful to the original.” He’s certainly done that and the chapter titles, including Ate All Your Mates, Inbreds and Incest, Jail time and No Silverware & Shitholes, give an idea of what the book covers. It is entertaining, it’s fruity and it will make you laugh – and that’s not a bad combination.
