British players who have scored the most goals in the UK

The UK is the birthplace of football and for most teenagers being able to play in the Football League is a dream. Some of the best footballers of all time were born in the UK and have marked the history of their country. Right now the English Premier League is considered the best football league in the world and the top players of the most important teams are truly international superstars.

Obviously, the most popular footballers are also those who score the most goals for their club and the national team. But which are the British players who have scored the most goals in the Premier League and Scottish Championship? In this article we will analyze some data of the best British players in the Premier League and the Scottish Premiership, also considering the last seasons’ statistics.

Alan Shearer – Top scorer in the Premier League

If you are over 30 you will surely remember Alan Shearer, with Newcastle and Blackburn shirts. The footballer born in Newcastle Upon Tyne on 13 August 1970 is a true legend of British football and an idol for Newcastle supporters. Alan Shearer is the most prolific British player ever in the Premier League, having scored 260 goals in his career between 1992 and 2006. 

In 14 years in the Premier League Shearer has only played for two teams, scoring 112 goals for Blackburn and 148 forNewcastle United. with the senior national team Shearer scored 30 goals in 63 matches, thanks to his technique but also to his intelligence and power within the penalty area. Alan Shearer was the Premier League top scorer for three years in a row, between 1994 and 1997 scoring 90 goals in three seasons.

The only British players still in business to be among the top 20 scorers in the Premier League are Harry Kane (Tottenham) and Jamie Vardy (Leicester City). Vardy was the top scorer in the Premier League in the 2019/2020 season, scoring a total of 23 goals. 

Kris Boyd – Top scorer in the Scottish Premiership

In Scotland, the best scorer ever is the historic Kilmarnock and Glasgow Rangers striker Kris Boyd. The Scottish footballer has scored many more goals throughout his career, but in the Scottish Premiership he has scored 225. Kris Boyd has had a career full of “comebacks”: he moved three times to Kilmarnock and two to Rangers, in different seasons and periods of his professional career.

Kris Boyd scored 120 goals with Kilmarnock and 105 goals with Glasgow Rangers for a total of 225, but also 6 with Nottingham Forest, 6 with Middlesbrough and 7 with Portland Timbers. Kris Boyd is a true soccer globe trotter and the only club where he hasn’t scored any goals is in Turkey for Eskişehirspor. Boyd scored 7 goals for the Scottish national football team in 18 caps and retired in 2019.

In second place in the all-time Scottish Premiership top scorer is not a Scottish footballer, but Swedish Celtic legend Henrik Larsson, who has scored 158 goals. Edouard currently holds the record for goals scored with France’s U21 national team and his future looks really bright, especially for his performances with the Glasgow Celtic shirt.
