MY FONDEST memory of the League Cup is Sheffield United beating Liverpool in the first leg of the 2003 semi-final.
As a youngster just getting into football, I loved seeing my boyhood club defeat one of Europe’s finest. Although United lost the second leg, it was still a fine example of how magical the competition could be. Yet today, it is a shell of its former self.
