Jose Mourinho sacked as Chelsea manager

Chelsea have sacked Jose Mourinho as manager.

The 52-year-old took charge of Chelsea for the second time in June 2013 and guided the Blues to the Premier League title last season.

However, this season has been marked by problems both on and off the pitch for Mohrinho with Chelsea only winning four of their 16 league games this season.

Moruinho leaves Chelsea languishing in 16th place, only one point off the relegation zone.

The Portuguese manager is Chelsea’s most successful boss. He was won three Premier League titles, three League Cups and one FA Cup.

Mourinho only signed a new four-year contract on 7 August but the Chelsea board have decided that a fresh approach is needed to reverse the club’s worrying form.

A statement on Chelsea’s official club website read, “Both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways.

“The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea.

“His legacy at Stamford Bridge and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Stamford Bridge.”

It has been reported that Gus Hiddink will become interim manager until the end of the season.

Hiddink took up a similar role at Chelsea in 2009 after the sacking of Felipe Scolari and only lost one match during his four months in charge.
