Andros Townsend appears set to complete a move to Newcastle United after the two clubs agreed a fee of around £12m for the winger.
The 24-year-old was at St James’ Park today for a medical and a deal is expected to be announced by Friday, well in time to make his debut on the 6 February against West Brom.
The England international has struggled this year to make a real impact for ‘Spurs and has only made three appearances from the bench this campaign. He was dropped from the squad following an argument over his fitness levels with coach Nathan Gardiner.
Townsend has been at the club since 2009, making 50 appearances and scoring three goals for the north London club.
The winger all but announced his departure on Tuesday, tweeting a picture of him leaving the clubs training ground. He tweeted also that it’d been an: “Absolute pleasure playing with the U21 boys.”
