But this was not a friendly like we know today, being used to test out players and use numerous substitutions. Friendlies in 1960 still held prestige and were highly competitive.
With their star-studded squad, Spain were the favourites. After all, they had beaten England with ease by 3-0 in Madrid just five months previously.
