Sam Todd recalls when Tottenham Hotspur played Nottingham Forest in a momentous match 40 years ago

THERE was plenty of VAR scrutiny earlier this season when Liverpool’s Luis Diaz had what many considered to be a perfectly good goal disallowed by the Stockley Park officials.
The beneficiaries of that September 30 decision were Tottenham Hotspur, who eventually defeated the Reds 2-1 and were also involved in the match almost 40 years ago to the day that arguably kicked off the situation we have now where televised football is central to the national debate.
