French Football In 1992 Was Utter Filth

om-1992We’re basing this purely on the below video because holy hell that’s some dirty, dirty football.

We all remember the ‘Battle of the Bridge’ last season between Chelsea and Spurs; we’ve all been told about the famous ‘Battle of Santiago’ in 1962; but this 1992 game between PSG and Marseille seems to have slipped under the radar.

Here we can see the two French giants going at it – and we mean at it – with little regard for actually playing a game of football. Fouls, cards and angry gesticulating abound, and at times the field is littered with multiple clothes-lined players all clutching various body parts, trying not to disintegrate into tiny little pieces.

While allowing us a nice glimpse back at how football used to be – David Ginola! Hair! Reckless tackles! Terrible fashion! – we’ve also discovered our new favourite player is Eric Di Meco.

The Marseille left-back seems hell-bent on performing his very own one-man Vinnie Jones tribute and is seemingly only physically able to tackle someone with two feet from behind. You do you, Eric.

Oh, 90’s football, how you are missed.
